SpaceX will launch gamma-ray telescope for NASA in 2027
SpaceX will launch COSI observatory, a gamma-ray telescope being developed by NASA.
This telescope will study universe in high energy gamma-ray and is named Compton Spectrometer and Imager mission or COSI.
It will be launched in August 2027 from Cape Canaveral, FL.
Falcon 9 is the chosen vehicle for this mission.
The contract with SpaceX is worth $69 million as per NASA officials.
The COSI mission was previously targeted to fly in 2025 but was eventually delayed.
This telescope will study our Galaxy including creation of matter and antimatter.
This mission is estimated to cost $145 million excluding the launch cost.
